La cruzada de un hombre.

Quiero publicar una nota que encontré en Internet sobre la cruzada personal de un hombre. Esta es la primera vez que escucho sobre este asunto y quiero compartirlo con ustedes:

TURIN, Italy -- When Arturo Kinch crossed the finish line on Friday, the winner of his race could have already talked to the press, eaten lunch and gone back to the Olympic village for a short nap. The NBC cameras were no longer around. But heck, they weren't around in Salt Lake City four years ago when Kinch finished 81st. This year he placed 95th in the 15 kilometer cross country skiing event _ out of 96. That means he was next to last, behind only Prawat Nagvajara of Thailand.
But it was Costa Rica's shining moment in these Winter Olympics. That's because it was its only moment.

The 49-year-old Kinch, a Denver resident, is in his fifth Winter Olympics. The one-man Costa Rican ski team showed up first in Lake Placid in 1980, two Olympics ahead of the infamous Jamaican bobsled team. The ninth of 11 children of a missionary couple, Kinch says he started skiing at Rockmount College (now Colorado Christian) because it was better than being a third-stringer on the basketball team. When he found out that to be eligible for international competition, he had to be a member of a national skiing association, he founded the Costa Rica Ski Association. And every year he carries the flag and walks alone when Costa Rica's delegation of one is introduced at the Olympics opening ceremonies. Three Dog Night may think one is a lonely number, but when you are a skier from a country without snow, it really is.

Puede que a algunos este asunto les parezca "simpático" o simplemente "curioso". A mí, personalmente, me enorgullece. Pocas imágenes me han hecho sentir tan satisfecha como la de un hombre que camina con nuestra bandera a cuestas solo y lo hace de forma digna y certera. Yo le voy a escribir a Kinch para darle mi apoyo. Ustedes, ¿porqué no lo hacen? Al fin y al cabo, sólo toma un par de minutos.
